YC's Martinez, Koppinger shine at all-star game
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Yuma Catholic's Erick Martinez and Jayson Koppinger finished their prep baseball careers on high notes.
The two seniors led the North all-stars to a 6-4 win over the South on Saturday at Surprise Stadium in the Arizona Baseball Coaches Association's 1A-2A senior all-star game.
Martinez went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. He was neamed the MVP of the game.
Koppinger went 1-for-2 with a double and pitched a perfect ninth inning.
Martinez finished his high school career with 18 school records and holds state records with 65 RBI in a season and 184 hits for his career.
Koppinger is a 10-time letter-winner and played in every baseball game during his four years at YC. He owns or shares 17 school records, including strikeouts in a game with 17 set this past season against Antelope.
