Shamrocks lose second straight
Comments 0 | Recommend 0PHOENIX - With a two-loss regular season and a second seed in the Metro Regional Tournament behind it, Yuma Catholic's girls basketball team lost its last two games - Saturday to Horizon Honors 50-41 - to place fourth in the penultimate tournament.
Zanae Facio and Ashley Wirtzberger scored 14 points each, but the Shamrocks (27-4) still suffering from a tough loss to third seeded Push Ridge Friday, didn't have the energy.
"Today we just didn't play well, the third game in three nights caught up to them," coach Bill Wirtzberger said. "We have to try to have a good week of practice and get up for state."
Yuma Catholic is still in the state tournament, but with a fourth seed start its run against the top seeded public school Camp Verde. Camp Verde eliminated YC from the tournament last year with most of that team still in uniform.
Wirtzberger said although they are now playing the best teams in the state he feels his team can win, but the Shamrocks have to be near perfect to do it.
"On any given day a lot of us can beat the others," Wirtzberger said. "We have a lot less margin of error than the other teams do, because our depth isn't what they have."
