San Luis girls wins first region title
Comments 0 | Recommend 0SAN LUIS - The San Luis girls tennis team is 5A Gila Valley Champion for the first time in school history.
San Luis needed to run the table and beat Kofa in all three doubles matches for a 5-4 victory to end the season Friday.
"This was our goal, to win region and you don't understand how my girls are feeling right now," San Luis coach Sonia Escalante said.
The Raiders led 4-2 after the singles matches and San Luis rallied to preserve its perfect region record. Julissa Dominguez and Ariana Huerta won the first doubles match 8-6, Maribel Gutierrez and and Myra Ramirez won the second 8-2 and finally Claudia Chavez and Claudia Aguayo won 8-6.
"Knowing they had to win all three doubles (matches) they played so hard and were in every point," Escalante said. "I'm proud to be their coach and proud they're on my team."
