Cibola, Yuma volleyball teams lose at state
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Yuma High volleyball team's season ended in the first round of the 5A Division II state playoffs Wednesday.
The No. 11 Criminals lost to No. 6 Marana-Mountain View 22-25, 15-25 and 14-25 in Tucson.
"We didn't get the swings we needed in the second and third games. That hurt us quite a bit," Yuma coach Manny Garcia said. "We also didn't do well blocking at the net. The other team was just loaded with hitters."
Magaly Gallegos led Yuma with nine kills and five blocks. Christine Barry added two kills and a pair of blocks, and Margerie Smith tallied two aces.
"Our goal was not to just get to state, but to go beyond the first round," Garcia said. "But overall, it has been a good season."
The Cibola volleyball team also lost in the first round.
The No. 16 Raiders, who earned an automatic bid by winning the Gila Valley Region tournament, lost to No. 1 Peoria-Centennial 25-9, 25-12 and 25-18 in Peoria.
